Valley in Motion is helping the Lackawanna Valley become fun and welcoming places for outdoor recreation! With a partnership grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, we are helping Archbald, Carbondale, and Forest City use the Lackawanna River and its trails to improve access to nature and quality of life. We believe that trails, parks, and outdoor spaces can be powerful tools for revitalization. This initiative helps these towns shine as welcoming gateways to adventure for residents and visitors alike.

From designing vibrant murals to providing ADA-compliant visual and physical to the river, we’re creating reasons for people to stop, explore, and support our local communities. These projects are helping our communities become more walkable and bikeable, making them safer, more dynamic – and returning them to uses for which they were originally designed. Outdoor Towns invite people to our outdoor resources, and benefit economically when trail users go to our coffee shops, restaurants, and stores.

As usual, Valley In Motion put collaboration in the center of this work, partnering with local leaders, residents, and partners. By investing in these towns and their connection to the outdoors, we’re helping to create a more active, inclusive, and economically vibrant region. There is strong community energy in Archbald, Carbondale, and Forest City and we’re excited to keep that momentum growing.

Many thanks to our partners in this work, including Archbald Borough, Archbald Neighborhood Association, Borough of Forest City, City of Carbondale, Forest City Outdoor Town Action Team, Gravity Slope Committee, Individual Abilities in Motion, Lackawanna Heritage Valley, and Trust for Public Land.
